Rachel, I am addicted to your articles right now. I love the bit at the end about thinking foolishly, writing recklessly, and editing prudently. I've been guilty of spending too much time trying to perfect the first draft, and it stunts my creativity. As a budding digital copywriter, I find your tips invaluable. Do you guys have an e-newsletter with more articles like this?

Thank you Rachel! These are all great suggestions. We are definitely delving into our analytics much more than we used to. We are learning A LOT about timing, platforms and trends. Articles like your definitely help. Thanks again for an awesome article and the helpful ideas!

Thank you Ken!
You mention having some posts knock your socks off with analytics and some completely miss the mark. Have you looked at what is causing the spike or drop in traffic? If it is referring traffic, then I would definitely look into the tone and voice or topics that your readers want. I would also look at the subject matter of daily/seasonal trends when planning a content strategy or publishing. Something that has keywords and content that is relevant to a buzzing subject matter will perform better right out of the park.
Thanks again!

Rachel,
Well done! Fantastic article! As you said, there is a CostCo sized amount of content out there. Unfortunately, little is of any quality. Professional content writing is not easy. Of course we are all trying to sell a product or company; but deciphering what voice and tone our readers want can be a challenge. It is often some hit and miss. Certain posts knock our analytics socks off while other are like a ghost town... and there are time we can't figure out for the life of us why. However, regardless of how good are numbers are, there are certain rules we must stick to. Styles, links, consistently and EDITING! While the subject matter may vary, and how it is received will as well, sticking to these rules allows us to continually deliver quality content.
Thanks again for these great tips!

[…] Tips to Improve Your Writing for Better Content Marketing Forget everything you learned in college. A thesis paper this is not. Throw your rules out the window because Content is King, and digital content has a new set of rules. Content is devoured by the millions of people who run around the internet every day and content marketers and content producers have a unique ability to capture those readers, audiences, and customers. The problem right now tends to be, is any of the content good? Consensus says a vast majority isn't. While there is great content out there, often the problem with not-so-good content is that writers and content marketers fail to recognize that content for online use has a different set of quality parameters than print. It is a fairly new field compared to print and content writers must adapt. Here are some tried and true ways to make your online content better, good, or maybe downright great.
